Chingford League – Wanstead Flats

07/03/2020 @ 10:00 - 14:00

Dear Chingford League Contacts and Reps,

Key details for the C/L relays on Sat 7th March, hosted by East London Runners;

Race HQ Harrow Road Pavilion, E11 3DQ.

11am Start. Please arrive as early as possible to sort teams.

The notes which follow attempt to explain how it works. But if it seems complicated, don’t worry. Just bring as many runners from your club as you can and we’ll explain on the day.

See you there

Adrian Frost
(C/L Hon Sec)

Team Managers (TMs): Collect your on-the-day numbers and declaration sheets from Bob in the pavilion office. Teams of 4 legs. To score in the team competitions you need full teams of 4 runners. However….

“Everyone who turns up gets a run” So if your club for example brings 5 men and 3 women, no problem. You put together a scoring men’s team of 4 and a non-scoring mixed team of 3 women and one man. If a club brings only one, two or three runners, we’ll help you join forces with another club to make up a non-scoring mixed team.

U11/13s have white number bibs and do a shorter leg of one mile each, such that they don’t go into the forest part of Wanstead Flats and so stay within sight of junior TMs and parents

U15/17s and Seniors have number bibs which are colour-coded according to which of the 4 two-mile legs is being run.

Junior team competitions were completed at Vicky Park, so U11/13s and U15/17s are competing for on-the-day glory only. Junior TMs should feel free to include U11s in their U13 teams, and U15s in their U17teams, if they wish, in order to make up complete teams where possible.

Seniors are competing for team points as well as for the on-the-day men’s and women’s relay cups.

The leading teams in all 5 team league tables could all theoretically be overtaken, depending on the relay results. And there are a number of A teams in both men’s and women’s competitions who could end up in either the first or second division next season depending on how many of the 16 available team points they bag from their relay performance!

TMs please note that the senior competition is “open”. So if you happen to have an u17 runner who is so fast that they’d improve your senior team, feel free to include them with the seniors.

VETS – the senior/vet age category is not relevant in putting together your teams. Just try to put the 4 best runners in your A team, your next best in your B team and so on. After the race, Bob constructs “notional” vets teams by adding up your 4 best vets’ times, and uses these to work out the team scores and points for the vets league tables.

PRESENTATIONS begin as soon as possible after 12noon. Please see the attached list of medal winners and encourage them to be present to collect their awards if at all possible. Also attached is the list of 100% Chingford Leaguers. If they also turn up and take part in the relays they’ll each be presented with a Chingford League china mug hand-made in Stoke-on-Trent at Moorland Pottery.

NB The “all ages start together at 11am” system was forced on us by Epping Forest authorities who want us clear of the pavilion by 12.30 in time for the football matches. It’s worked well for the last two years – but perhaps TMs would remind seniors to be mindful that they’ll be running past or alongside our U11/13s.

CLUB KIT MUST BE WORN! It’s even more important at the relays, because a runner not in club colours disqualifies their entire team, not just themselves. TMs – please don’t let it happen!
