Update from Club Chairman, Chas Taylor, on Tuesday 17/3/2020.
Urgent Message Re Coronavirus Pandemic
Following the government announcements made yesterday and an England Athletics statement this morning we are having to suspend all formal Club activity for the foreseeable future and at least until the end of April. I am sure you are aware of the government advice on social distancing and self-isolation, particularly for the vulnerable. We now have advice from England Athletics that running clubs should suspend all their activities including training, events and social gatherings. This effectively means that we have no insurance cover for our sessions. The key part of the England Athletics statement reads:
As a result, England Athletics advises that all face-to-face activity such as club training sessions, events, competitions, club committee and face-to-face meetings, athlete camps, running groups and social events should be suspended until at least the end of April.
We therefore have no option but to suspend all Club activity. We are really sorry to make this decision but the health of all concerned is the overriding concern. I hope you all understand.
This obviously means that the Junior and Senior Handicaps will not take place during this period.
We have also taken the decision to postpone the Aquathlon scheduled for Sunday 31st May 2020. We will be in touch shortly regarding possible rescheduling and/or refunding of entry fees.
We have also decided to cancel the Presentation Night planned for 30th April 2020. We will find a way of presenting all the trophies.
We haven’t yet made a decision about Sally’s Quiz Night or Triffic Trial but we’ll keep you updated.
One of the concerns of shutting down Club activity, necessary as it is, is that we will lose the Club spirit and commitment. Please do everything you can to keep that going and if you have any good ideas for what we can do in this period please let me know.
We will keep you updated on all developments. Please do everything you can to keep yourselves, your families and the wider community safe.
As a club, we will be updating our website and social media channels on regular bases so please check back for the latest information.
